Shimokitazawa
Matcha Passport Tokyo
A second-floor matcha bar on Shimokitazawa's Ichibangai shopping street, opened by Kantaro Fumoto and Robert Rudini and supplied by Shizuoka tea producer Marushichi Seicha. The draw is a rotating list of single cultivars and blends named after Japanese folk creatures, including Komainu for umami, Tanuki for a nutty profile and Reiyo from Aichi for balance, which staff will talk through before you order. Beyond the signature latte there is usucha, Earl Grey and strawberry versions, and a burnt matcha cheesecake. Bilingual staff make it one of the easier matcha specialists in Tokyo for visitors. Later in the evening the room shifts toward matcha cocktails.
