Jiyugaoka
Re:Route CAFE Jiyugaoka
A basement tea cafe two minutes from Jiyugaoka station that treats Japanese tea as something to drink, eat and do. Matcha sits alongside sencha, gyokuro, hojicha and wakocha, brewed in a kyusu or poured into wine glasses to open the aroma, with the same leaf served at different temperatures to show how sweetness and astringency shift. The sweets are built from tea rather than flavoured with it: a tea terrine, a tea bonsai, a moss-garden dessert. Bookable workshops cover whisking matcha yourself, roasting your own hojicha and shaping nerikiri wagashi. Drinking and eating need no reservation; the hands-on courses do.
